Catelin Castellanos

Licensed Associate Therapist
Hey! I’m Cate, an LAC in the state of Arizona. I’m extroverted, grounded, and genuinely love people (I always have). I’m not a fixer. I’m more of a walk-with-you, notice-what’s-happening kind of person. I’m big on walks, moving emotions through the body, and letting feelings do their thing instead of overthinking.
I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) and art therapy. Which usually looks like getting curious, doodling, moving, maybe the sand tray, laughing sometimes, and realizing nothing is actually “wrong” with you. You don’t need the right words or to be good at anything – you just get to show up.

If therapy that feels human, intentional, and a little different sounds good – let’s talk.

What do you wish someone would have told you before you stepped into your first therapy session?

“I wish someone would have told me to take my time. I felt pressured and rushed to push through so much of my story and what I really needed was to slow down and learn to enjoy (or at least coexist) with it all, even when it was really hard.” – Cate

What is Internal Family Systems?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is the fancy therapy modality name for “parts work”. The main idea is that each person has many “parts” within – and each of them has a job to do – just like a regular family system. In life, we learn and adapt to our surroundings – that means that our “parts” each find a way to help us survive. IFS teaches that there are no bad parts, only parts that need attention, care and support. Healing happens when we begin listening to our parts instead of fighting them. Sometimes when things feel messy, loud or even painful inside – it’s just a part doing it’s job. Maybe the part of you that avoids is just protecting you from overwhelm. Or the part that overthinks? That part might be trying to keep you safe. Using IFS in therapy means getting curious about what our parts need, what and where they learned these strategies, and integrating them back into the “family” in a way that provides more peace and connection.

The Well is a warm, inviting and creative space that is curated with you in mind. It is located in a historic home in the heart of Downtown Mesa.
