Scott Visser
Licensed Associate Therapist

Hey! I’m Scott. I genuinely love helping others reach their goals. Therapy can feel intimidating, because asking for help is a vulnerable spot to be in and you want to be able to trust whoever you work with. My goal for us is to figure out what matters to you and what you want out of therapy – and move toward that. When you become more fully the person you were created to be – it changes everything.
I specialize in career counseling, athletics/sports performance, and anxiety/relationship concerns. I utilize multicultural counseling, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Person-Centered approaches, and trauma-informed care to provide a warm, safe, and empowering environment for my clients.
We all learn ways of surviving and getting through life the best we can. If you are ready to take an honest look at yourself, learn something new and make some changes – let’s talk.
What do you wish someone would have told you before you stepped into your first therapy session?
“First, that the hardest part is asking for help. It’s also the most brave, courageous thing you can do for yourself. And you’re worth that. Second, that our stories are part of us but they do not have to define us.” – Scott

What is Internal Family Systems?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is the fancy therapy modality name for “parts work”. The main idea is that each person has many “parts” within – and each of them has a job to do – just like a regular family system. In life, we learn and adapt to our surroundings – that means that our “parts” each find a way to help us survive. IFS teaches that there are no bad parts, only parts that need attention, care and support. Healing happens when we begin listening to our parts instead of fighting them. Sometimes when things feel messy, loud or even painful inside – it’s just a part doing it’s job. Maybe the part of you that avoids is just protecting you from overwhelm. Or the part that overthinks? That part might be trying to keep you safe. Using IFS in therapy means getting curious about what our parts need, what and where they learned these strategies, and integrating them back into the “family” in a way that provides more peace and connection.
