Grief & Loss Support

Grief & Loss Counseling

Loss can change the shape of everyday life. You may feel deeply sad, angry, relieved, numb—or unsure what you feel at all. Sometimes you’re carrying on with everything while quietly wondering how the world keeps moving.

At The Well, we offer grief and loss counseling in Downtown Mesa, Arizona. We make space for what you’ve lost, what you miss, and what life is asking of you now.

You don’t have to make sense of it before you come.

No. The death of someone important can bring profound grief, but loss takes many forms.

You might be navigating divorce, estrangement, infertility, pregnancy loss, a change in health, or the loss of a community or sense of belonging. You may be grieving a relationship that never became what you needed, or a future you thought you would have.

There is room here for losses that others recognize—and those that feel harder to explain.

You might recognize yourself in some of these experiences:

  • You’re getting things done, but you don’t feel fully present.
  • Small tasks take more energy than they used to.
  • You reach for your phone to tell someone something, then remember.
  • You feel unexpectedly angry or impatient with people you love.
  • You’re tired of answering “How are you?”
  • A song, smell, place, or ordinary moment catches you off guard.
  • You feel lonely around people who care about you.
  • You feel guilty when you enjoy yourself—or worry that feeling better means forgetting.
  • You miss who you were before the loss.
  • You don’t know what you need, but you know carrying it alone is hard.

Your experience doesn’t have to match this list to deserve support.

You’re welcome here whether the loss happened recently or years ago.

Sometimes there wasn’t room to grieve when it happened. You may have been caring for others, managing practical demands, or simply getting through the day. Other times, a milestone or new experience brings a familiar loss close again.

We can begin with what you’re noticing now.

Yes. Waiting, uncertainty, caregiving, and watching someone’s health change can bring grief before a death or goodbye.

You may be holding hope and sadness at the same time, or feeling exhausted by decisions and responsibilities. Therapy offers space to talk honestly about your experience and consider what support you need along the way.

We start by getting to know you, your loss, and what brings you in. You won’t be expected to tell your whole story immediately or feel a certain way.

Some sessions may involve remembering and talking about what you miss. Others may focus on relationships, changing responsibilities, difficult dates, or finding ways to get through the week.

We can make room for love, anger, unanswered questions, complicated relationships, and moments of joy. You don’t have to protect your therapist from the difficult parts.

No. Sometimes words help, and sometimes they feel out of reach.

Depending on your interests and your therapist’s training, sessions may include art-making, meaningful objects, grounding, or creative ways to remember and express what you’re experiencing.

You don’t need to be an artist. We’ll decide together what feels useful, and you can always choose conversation instead.

We bring warmth, curiosity, and respect for your relationship with what you’ve lost. Together, we make room to:

  • Express feelings without having to tidy them up
  • Explore memories, meaning, and continuing connection
  • Navigate changes in relationships and everyday life
  • Notice what brings support, relief, or a little more room to breathe
  • Ask for what you need from the people around you

Our work follows your needs, values, culture, and pace. There is no expectation that you find a silver lining.

What if the loss was traumatic?

Sometimes you’re grieving a loss while also struggling with how it happened. You may be carrying shock, fear, distressing memories, or questions that feel hard to put down alongside missing someone you love.

At The Well, we make room for both the grief and the impact of the experience. Julia Karrys has postgraduate training and certification in traumatic grief work, offering specialized support for people navigating this overlap.

Depending on your needs and your therapist’s training, sessions may integrate grief counseling with trauma-focused approaches, creative expression, and grounding practices.

You don’t have to describe every detail or process everything at once. Together, we’ll find a pace that gives you room to grieve, remember, and feel supported in the present.
