THE UNWELL STUDIO
Where creativity belongs to everyone.
The UnWell Studio is the creative heart of The Well—a working art studio where therapy, art-making, and community live alongside one another.
It’s a place to get curious, work with real materials, learn from artists, make a mess, and discover what can happen when we create something new.
Here, creativity takes a couple of different forms.
First, ART THERAPY
A different way of doing therapy.
Art therapy is its own distinct mental health profession—one that uses art materials, creative processes, and the experience of making as part of the therapeutic work itself.
Our trained art therapists understand how different materials and creative processes interact with the brain, body, emotions, and relationships. Rather than simply adding art to talk therapy, art therapy offers another way to explore, express, experience, and work toward change.
No art experience needed. The art isn’t the point—the process is.

Second, CREATIVE WORKSHOPS
Because we were made to create.
We believe creativity matters outside of the therapy room, too.
The UnWell Studio invites local artists to bring their creative practices into our space and share them with you. Our workshops are a chance to work with real materials, learn from artists who love what they do, experiment with new processes, and make something of your own.
And when we make alongside other people, something else happens too—conversation, connection, and community tend to find their way in.

THE UNWELL STUDIO
The UnWell Studio is the art studio inside The Well—and, in many ways, the heart of it. The name is a play on words, making a little room for the messiness of being human and the process that unfolds when we make something. Because let’s be honest…we aren’t always *well.*
During the week, the Studio supports brave clients in art therapy sessions and groups. At night and on weekends, it opens to local artists and community members to gather, learn, experiment, and create. Things get messy. Materials get used. That’s kind of the point.
Our Studio is small and cozy, with room for just six people at a time. It’s a fully functioning art space with drawing and painting supplies, printmaking, collage and mixed media, clay, plaster, inks, and plenty more.
We’re also home to a clay space and kiln, giving us room for ceramics and even more hands-on, material-based processes in both art therapy and creative workshops.

Julia Karrys
Our resident artist, licensed art therapist, and Studio Manager. Julia helps care for the creative life of the UnWell Studio and connects with local artists interested in leading workshops or collaborating with us.
