YOUR RIGHT TO A GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE

Under the federal No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your health care is expected to cost.

WHO CAN RECEIVE A GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE?

If you do not have health insurance or do not plan to use your health insurance to pay for services, you generally have the right to receive an estimate of the expected cost of your care before receiving services.

This includes individuals who have health insurance but choose to pay for services themselves rather than submit a claim to their health plan.

WHAT IS A GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE?

A Good Faith Estimate provides an estimate of the expected charges for the health care services you are scheduled to receive.

At The Well, therapy fees vary based on your therapist, their licensure and experience, the type of service provided, and the length of the appointment.

Your therapist or The Well can provide information about the expected cost of your services before treatment begins.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE ONE?

If you schedule a service 3–9 business days in advance, a Good Faith Estimate generally must be provided within 1 business day after scheduling.

If you schedule a service 10 or more business days in advance, a Good Faith Estimate generally must be provided within 3 business days after scheduling.

You may also request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling a service. When requested, it generally must be provided within 3 business days.

WHAT IF MY TREATMENT CHANGES?

A Good Faith Estimate is an estimate, not a contract.

Mental health treatment is individualized, and it is often difficult to know in advance exactly how many therapy sessions a person will need. Your treatment needs, frequency of sessions, therapist, or services may change over time.

If the expected cost or course of your care changes substantially, an updated Good Faith Estimate may be provided as appropriate.

You are always welcome to discuss the cost of therapy, frequency of appointments, or your treatment plan with your therapist.

WHAT IF MY BILL IS HIGHER THAN MY ESTIMATE?

If you receive a bill from a provider that is at least $400 more than the amount listed on the Good Faith Estimate from that provider, you may be eligible to use the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.

Make sure to save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate.

For more information about your rights or the dispute process, visit the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services information about Good Faith Estimates and the No Surprises Act.
