Therapy for Parents

“There’s no such thing as perfect parenting.”

Parenting Support & Counseling in Mesa, AZ

You’re growing through this, too.

Parenting asks us to keep learning about our children—and ourselves. What worked last year may not work now. You can love your child deeply and still feel overwhelmed, unsure, or worn out – especially when life throws us curveballs.

You don’t have to wait until something is wrong to seek support. Sometimes you want help navigating a new stage or feeling more connected. Other times, your family is facing something difficult, and you need someone alongside you – we can do both.

At The Well, we offer parenting support and counseling in Downtown Mesa, Arizona. We make room for your child’s needs, your experiences, and the relationships within your family. We are passionate about strengthening families and repairing relationships.

You might be looking for support with:

  • Understanding your child’s emotions and behavior
  • Responding to conflict, withdrawal, or big reactions
  • Setting boundaries and following through
  • Staying connected as your child becomes more independent
  • Navigating different parenting approaches with a partner
  • Supporting a child with mental health concerns or additional needs
  • Divorce, separation, grief, or changes in your family
  • Feeling overwhelmed, reactive, guilty, or unsure of yourself
  • Noticing how your own upbringing influences your parenting
  • Finding room for your needs alongside caring for others

We’ll work together to understand what’s happening and identify changes that fit your family.

No. Parenting involves responding to a person who is constantly growing and changing, while managing your own responsibilities, feelings, and limits.

Wanting support can mean you’re paying attention. You may need fresh ideas, a place to think out loud, or help understanding why certain moments feel so difficult.

You don’t need to prove you’re a good parent here. We can begin with an honest conversation about what’s working and what feels hard.

We start by learning about your family, your concerns, and what you hope will feel different.

Sessions may include exploring a recent interaction, understanding developmental needs, practicing communication, or considering different ways to respond. We can also make room for the emotions parenting brings up in you.

Together, we’ll develop practical steps, try them, and revisit what happens. We want the work to be useful in everyday family life.

We bring professional knowledge, thoughtful questions, and guidance—but we won’t assume there is one approach that fits every family.

Your culture, values, history, resources, and your child’s individual needs matter. We’ll help you consider what supports connection, safety, and development within that context.

There is room to examine familiar patterns, try something different, and change your mind as you learn.

Maybe you raise your voice, shut down, give in, or become more controlling than you intended. Afterward, you feel guilty and promise yourself you’ll respond differently next time.

We can explore what happens in those moments: the stress you’re carrying, what you’re interpreting, and what makes it difficult to pause. Together, we’ll work on recognizing patterns, responding more intentionally, and repairing when things go wrong.

Your experiences deserve compassion, and your actions can be approached with responsibility and room for change.

Not necessarily. Parenting support can begin with you, even if your child isn’t interested in therapy or doesn’t need individual treatment.

Depending on your goals, your therapist may recommend parent-only sessions, individual counseling for you, family sessions, or separate support for your child. We’ll explain the options and clarify who is participating in treatment and how the work will be structured.

Yes, when appropriate. Meeting together can help caregivers understand one another, clarify expectations, and develop more consistent responses.

You don’t have to agree on everything before beginning. Your therapist will discuss whether joint sessions fit your circumstances and goals. You can also seek support individually when another caregiver isn’t participating.

Yes. When a child experiences loss, trauma, anxiety, or another significant challenge, caregivers often need support too.

We can help you think through conversations, recognize your child’s needs, and respond to changes at home. And it can feel really lonely while you are trying to hold it together and support your kid – so there is also space for your own worry, grief, frustration, or exhaustion in therapy for you. This can greatly shift the burden away from your child and in a healthy way support your relationship.

If your child needs specialized care, we’ll discuss options and how parent support might fit alongside that treatment.

Parenting support focuses primarily on your experience as a caregiver and how you understand and respond to your child.

Family therapy brings family members into the work together to address relationships, communication, and shared concerns.

These approaches can complement each other. We’ll help you consider which starting point makes sense for your family.

Yes! Our $50 intro sessions offer more time to meet a therapist, ask questions, and get a feel for working together—in person or virtually.

It’s an extended consultation with no intake paperwork or commitment to ongoing sessions. Let us know you’re looking for parenting support, and we’ll help you explore a next step.

Support for you belongs in the picture.

You spend a lot of time thinking about what your child needs. There’s room to consider what would help you feel more supported, connected, and able to respond in resilient & healthy ways, too. As you get support – you are supporting your kids and family just as much!
